What Is Settled Status in the UK?

Settled Status, also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), allows eligible EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens to remain in the UK indefinitely after Brexit. This status grants:

              • The right to live, work, and study in the UK
              • Access to the NHS and public funds
              • Pathway to British citizenship

To access these rights, you must be able to log in to your digital status online.

How to Access Your Settled Status Login

You can check your settled or pre-settled status online via the UK Government’s “View and Prove Your Immigration Status” portal:

              Step-by-Step Guide:

              1. Visit https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status
              2. Click on “Start Now”
              3. Enter one of the following:
                • Your passport or ID document number
                • Your biometric residence card (BRC) number
              4. Enter your date of birth
              5. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email or phone

              Important Note for Portuguese Citizens

If you’re a Portuguese national trying to log in with your National Identity Card, there’s a crucial step you shouldn’t miss. When entering your document number, you need to include both the main ID number and the additional four characters that appear between the ID number and the expiry date on your card. These extra Settled Status Login characters are part of the document number required by the Home Office system—leaving them out will prevent you from accessing your status. Make sure to enter the full sequence exactly as it appears on your card.

              Once logged in, you can:

              • View your immigration status
              • Generate a share code to prove your status to employers or landlords
              • Update your personal details

Common Issues with Settled Status Login

Even with the government portal, users often face issues such as:

              📅 Expired Documents

              • If your ID document has expired, you may be unable to log in.

📧 No Access to Registered Email or Phone

              • A new email or number will require a document update with the Home Office.

              ❌ Incorrect Login Details

              • Small errors in document numbers or birth dates can block access.
Using the Correct Number from Your Spanish ID Card

If you’re a Spanish citizen, logging in with your National Identity card can be confusing—these cards display both a DNI number and a ‘Num Soport’ (support number).

It’s important to use the ‘Num Soport’ when accessing the UK government’s “View and Prove Your Immigration Status” portal. This is because, during your original EUSS application, the Home Office recorded Settled Status Login the ‘Num Soport,’ as your official ID document number. Despite the DNI being familiar as your main ID number in Spain, it’s the ‘Num Soport’ the UK system recognises.

Here’s why the DNI alone often won’t work:

              • The Home Office scans and records the ‘Num Soport’ for your digital status, not the DNI.
              • When you renew your Spanish ID card, although the DNI remains the same, the ‘Num Soport’ changes. If your card has expired and you’ve received a replacement, you’ll need to update your EUSS record with the new ‘Num Soport’.

Always use the current ‘Num Soport’ from your card to log in—this will ensure you can view, share, and manage your status without unnecessary frustration.

❓ Forgotten Which ID Was Used

              • You must remember the specific ID used during your EUSS application.

              ❎ Biometric Residence Card Problems

              • Some older BRCs are no longer recognised post-Brexit.

If you’re experiencing these issues, our team at Primus Solicitors can assist you in Settled Status Login recovering access and ensuring your records are accurate.

Trouble with “Already Logged On” Error Messages

Another common stumbling block is encountering an error message telling you that you are “already logged on.” This can be frustrating, but thankfully, it’s usually easy to resolve:

              • Try a Different Web Browser: Sometimes, simply switching from Chrome to Firefox, Edge, or Safari can instantly solve the problem.
              • Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Old session data may interfere with your login. Clearing your cache or starting an “incognito” or “private” browsing session often does the trick.
              • Close Extra Tabs: Ensure you only have one tab open for the government portal, as multiple active sessions can confuse the system.
              • Restart Your Device: If all else fails, a quick restart can help clear out any lingering login sessions.

If you’re still unable to get in, keep reading for more ways to recover access and keep your records up to date with the Home Office.

What to Do If Your Share Code Isn’t Working

If you’ve generated a share code but the organisation Settled Status Login checking it reports it doesn’t work, don’t worry—there are several simple steps you can take:

              • Double-Check the Details: Make sure the employer, landlord, or agency is entering both the share code and your date of birth exactly as shown—mistyped details are a common culprit.
              • Check Code Expiry: Share codes are only valid for 90 days from when you create them. If it’s expired, simply log in and generate a fresh code.
              • Browser Troubleshooting: Advise the organisation to try using a different browser, clearing their cache, or switching to an incognito/private window to rule out technical hiccups.
              • Try Again: In some cases, the system might experience brief outages. Wait a few minutes and have them try entering the code once more.
              • Get Support: If the problem persists, you can contact UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) for technical support. Visit the UKVI website for their helpdesk details.

Still feeling stuck? Reach out to us at Primus Solicitors Manchester, and we’ll be happy to help guide you through resolving share code or login issues.
